For the Birds

You might be surprised to find that one of the ways we relax is actually to photograph!  When we need to reduce stress, we go to the birds.

We also find strategic advantages of photographing birds. It helps to sharpen your skills as a photographer because the birds won't stay still for you most the time, so photographing a quick moving target helps strengthen those skills to quickly manipulate the camera. Knowing that you have complete control over the tool that you are using when capturing that moving target gives you the ability then, to become a better photojournalist and photographer in general.

In some of our photo sessions we have the opportunity to set a scene. Photographing products, or models we can take the time to move the subject, the lights and line up the background. With other sessions, like photographing children, or events, we are always on the lookout to capture that perfect shot as it happens. Photographing birds is like the second scenario, we position ourselves for an image, taking into consideration the background, the lighting and the action an animal might take. We can't ask the bird to move one way or another, but we can move ourselves into position.

This bird is one of our favorites, we call him Elvis because that little puff on top of his head reminds us of the singer's hair. Everytime we go, he is in the same spot, just hanging out with his "hair" flying in the wind.
Elvis

We enjoy photographing all kinds of subjects, from families, couples and babies to products, events and wildlife. Each kind of photography presents its own challanges and we find them each to be just as rewarding in the end.

CASA - Upcoming Event

On November 10, 2012, Anne Arundel County CASA, Inc. will celebrate 15 years of service to abused and neglected children with CASAblanca: An Evening of Masquerade. This year’s gala will be held at the Loews Annapolis Hotel from 7PM to 11PM. Guests will enjoy an elegant evening of dining and dancing.
This premier event will be attended by a wide-array of the most prominent, civic-minded members of our community.  Our festivities will include dining, dancing, live music, various raffles, and both a silent and live auction. Tickets are $150 per person or tables of 10 for $1,500.  $40 of each ticket is a tax deductible donation to Anne Arundel County CASA, Inc. The event is black-tie optional and we invite you to don a mysterious mask although its not required.

The honorees for this year’s Gala are:

Community Leadership Award: Friends Foundation
Corporate Commitment Award: Merritt Properties, LLC
CASA Caring Heart Award: Kathleen O. Potter

Last year’s annual event was successful in large part due to the support of CASA’s corporate sponsors. We were able to use 100% of the funds raised for recruiting, training and supervising new CASA volunteers who provided a voice for the most vulnerable members of our community. Without CASA’s intervention, these children face the possibility of languishing in foster care. YOU and CASA can make it possible for many of these children to have a chance at a brighter future.

Raining on your Wedding Day

The saying goes that rain on your wedding day means good luck. Well, that may be true, but it doesn’t make it easy on the bride, especially when she is set on having an outdoor wedding and outdoor photographs. Well, this particular Saturday, at Herrington on the Bay, it had been raining all morning, the clouds were hanging low and the wind was whipping up. The Bride kept her hopes up and the rain cleared plenty of time before the start of the ceremony. We photographed the whole wedding party before the ceremony. The bride preferred it this way, to save more time for socializing at the reception afterwards. The ceremony was cold and windy, but the rain held off. After the ceremony, the rain poured like cats and dogs. The bride was still set on having some more photos outside, next the Chesapeake Bay. She worked on the Chesapeake for many years, so the Bay has a special place in her heart and it was very important for her to have wedding photos in front of it. Everyone enjoyed the reception inside protected from the wet weather. When we saw the sky clear, we got the attention of the Bride and Groom and snuck out of the reception to get a few romantic and fun photos by the water. If the saying is true about rain on your wedding day, this bride will have lots of luck, along with beautiful pictures to remember the day.

Team 4Mil Cycling into Monument Valley, Utah
One of our photographers, Tara Roberts, was chosen as a team photographer for a 3,000 mile bicycle race earlier this summer. The Race Across America draws teams and individuals from all across the world. Tara was lucky enough to have the opportunity to photograph the journey of Team 4Mil.

Team 4Mil Coin - Front
Team 4Mil comprises a group of active and retired military riders. For the last 3 years they have been riding to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project. This year, Team 4Mil also organized a Wounded Warrior team, making it possible for some of our wounded veterans to compete in what is known as the toughest endurance race in the world. Both teams started in Oceanside, CA on June 16th and pedaled 3,000 miles to the finish line in Annapolis, MD.

Team 4Mil continues to support their wounded veterans throughout the year by raising funds and volunteering at The Wounded Warrior Project’s Warrior Rides.

Team 4Mil Coin - Back
We often photograph all branches of the Military in our studio and on the Naval Academy grounds. We’d like to show our appreciation for the men and women who serve our country. And a huge thanks to Team 4Mil and the Wounded Warrior Project for doing what they do.

A Work of Art

While eating at the Severn Inn last weekend, we came upon a piece of art that, to us, illustrates how connected the Annapolis community is.

Community Ties
We were eating lunch and awaiting the arrival of a small wedding party to photograph at the Severn Inn. We regularly frequent the Severn Inn both as a costumer and as photographers. We noticed a piece of art, a blue glass bowl. It piqued our interest as we had recently done some commercial product photography for a glass artist. It turns out, that bowl sitting at Severn Inn was created by William Donaldson, the very same artist who we shot photos for who lives right here in Annapolis.

Annapolis Artist, William Donaldson hires KRR to photograph his collection of art products. KRR buys food from locally run restaurant, Severn Inn. Severn Inn buys a glass bowl from a local artist, William Donaldson. This is the circle of life that keeps small businesses like us alive. Support local, and you’ll see it come around sooner or later

Severn Inn
Located at the eastern side of the Naval Academy Bridge, the Severn Inn provides panoramic views of Annapolis, the Naval Academy and Severn River while serving our guests exceptional cuisine and exquisite drinks.  YOu can check out their website at this link:http://www.severninn.com/

William Donaldson - Artist
William F. Donaldson is an award winning architect and artist, who lives in Annapolis, Maryland.  He credits Clemson University (go Tigers), with awakening his love for art.  Check out William's site here: http://www.attitudeart.com/artist.html
